Board Of Directors

Richard is the founder of Saving Structures and brings a lifetime of service, leadership, and hands-on experience to the organization's mission of providing safe, secure housing for vulnerable families. A builder and explorer at heart, Richard developed a strong work ethic early in life while roofing homes and working in the construction industry. He later earned a contractor license while working part-time for United Parcel Service, a job that evolved into a 30-year career in the service industry. During his time with UPS, he learned the value of efficiency, accountability, and delivering service at the highest standard—principles that continue to guide his work today. Following retirement, Richard dedicated himself to serving his community and faith. As the founding Bishop of the Providence Ward in Vineyard, Utah, he served for five years, leading and ministering to hundreds of individuals and families. The experience strengthened his leadership abilities, deepened his faith, and reinforced the importance of working together with good people to accomplish meaningful goals. Richard's humanitarian work in the Philippines became a turning point in his life. During multiple service trips, he witnessed firsthand the difficult living conditions faced by many families, particularly those whose homes had been damaged by severe weather and poverty. One experience that left a lasting impression was meeting a family of six living in a structure smaller than a camping tent, beneath a roof so damaged that sunlight shone through countless holes. After replacing the roof with new metal panels, Richard received a video from the family showing rain falling outside while, for the first time in months, the inside of their home remained dry. Experiences like these inspired the creation of Saving Structures. Richard believes his experiences in construction, service, leadership, and faith have prepared him for this work, and he is committed to dedicating his life to helping families build safer homes and brighter futures around the world.
